It GLOWS!!!
Story tiiiiiime!
So I am a HUGE fan girl. I’m a nerd, and I’m proud of it! I like Doctor Who, the X Files, the Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Star Wars, Star Trek, and so much more. Every year, I pick a fandom, and my mom throws me an AWESOME birthday party. She usually has to make everything herself, because you can’t just go buy Doctor Who birthday napkins, you know?
Last year, for my 12th birthday, we threw a big X-Files themed black light party. It was AWESOME. My mom and I made an alien autopsy cake and cupcakes, in case anyone was a little grossed out by eating a dead alien. I know.

ANYWAY…. we wanted to make some glowing “blood” so I did a little research, and discovered a completely food safe way to make just about anything glow under black light…. Vitamin B.
Several of the B vitamins actually will glow under black light. The best thing to do is to use a Vitamin B Complex, which usually contains all 3. You can crush this vitamin and add it to anything… drinks, Jell-o, even, you guessed it… FROSTING… and it will glow!!
The vitamin does have a strong “vitamin-y” taste, so I only use 1 per recipe of frosting and it works GREAT.
Happy Glowing!!
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup (2 Sticks) Salted Butter
- 1 Lb (Approx 4 Cups) Powdered Sugar
- 2 Tsp Vanilla
- 1 Vitamin B Complex
- 1 Tbsp Warm Water in a Small Bowl
Instructions:
Crush the vitamin into fine powder, and dissolve in the warm water.
Cream butter, vanilla, and vitamin water. If necessary, strain the vitamin water to remove any larger bits.
Add powdered sugar a little at a time, beating well until creamy.
This frosting will be very yellow. If desired, a touch of green food coloring can be added to make a bright, lime green glowing effect under normal light.
Frosting will glow under black light!
